James Emmit ''Bill'' Shaw, 65, of Gaston died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at his home.

Bill was a native of Halifax County, the son of the late James Emmit Shaw, Jr. and Margaret Ellis Shaw. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.

Bill is survived by two daughters, Wanda Shearin and her husband, Tony, of Gaston and Stephanie Shaw of Wilmington, NC; his son, Bobby Shaw and his wife, Sharon, of Roanoke Rapids; four grandchildren, Kayla Shearin, Brianna Spicer, Dylan and Kristen Shaw; and four sisters, Kim Dickens and her husband, Jody, and Lillian ''Re Re'' Turner, all of Gaston, Linda Lou Shaw of Emporia, VA, and Priscilla Ricks and her husband, Linwood, also of Gaston.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Saturday, May 28, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Cryptside funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 29, at 4:00 p.m. at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Evangelist Chuck Podruchny officiating.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Shaw’s service to his country.
